Something Fishy is Happening at Reason in the Rock

Renaissance man Mark Spitzer is Professor of Writing at the University of Central Arkansas, but he is so much more than that. He will share his many talents with us at Reason in the Rock on March 14 – including his poetic exposures of the mysterious, shadowy creatures enshrined in Arkansas legends.

Spitzer has written 20 books, including fish-based works of creative nonfiction like Season of the Gar and Return of the Gar. This teller of fish tales is also poet, essayist and literary translator. He is the editor of Toad Suck Review and managing editor of The Exquisite Corpse Annual.

He is a strong advocate for clean water and safe environmental practices and can be seen on reruns of the alligator gar episode of Animal Planet’s “River Monster” series. For more information about him, visit

To hear about his investigations into deepest, darkest Arkansas, come to Reason in the Rock March 14. His book Crypto-Arkansas, will be for sale and he’ll be autographing it. No self-respecting Arkansas skeptic should miss this.

Reason in the Rock is totally free – unless you’re kind enough to donate. Register today!
